Q: Lately my toddler has been taking longer naps than usual and crying for us during the night. What can we do?

A: The longer naps are probably not to blame. In fact, most kids sleep better at night when they nap well during they day. Your problem seems to be a separation issue since your toddler is waking up not to play, but rather crying for your company. Have you just moved him to a big-boy bed? If so, sometimes the freedom to get out of bed is a somewhat scary accomplishment that makes toddlers aware of the big home around them and anxious about where their parents are. Try leaving his bedroom door open (and maybe yours as well) with a nightlight on between your room and his. This will make your little guy feel less isolated while still keeping him in his own bed -- and out of yours.
