Why is my daughter swallowing too much pool water?
Q: My 5 year old loves the pool but has trouble breathing through her nose (we already went to see an Ear Nose Throat doctor). She can't keep her mouth closed and swallows too much pool water. Also, she always throws up (either what she ate or bile). What can I do to prevent this and help her enjoy the pool without getting sick every time?
A: I would say that the long-term solution is to figure out why she cannot breathe through her nose. Does she have a large adenoid? Allergies? Deviated septum? Not being able to breathe through the nose is more than just an issue for swimming! For now, your daughter can play in the water and swim, as long as she remembers to hold her breath by closing her mouth.
