This Boy Spent 2 Years Growing His Hair So He Could Donate It to His Friend
Tyler Boone donated 12 inches of his own hair to a friend with alopecia just before the New Year.
What a beautiful way to end 2016: After growing out his hair for the last two years, Tyler Boone ceremoniously cut it all off so he could donate it to his family friend Gabby Ruiz, who lost her own locks due to alopecia.
Way to go, Tyler! What an incredibly selfless gift!
According to ABC Action News WFTS, Gabby was diagnosed with alopecia—an autoimmune disorder that causes otherwise healthy kids or adults to lose some or all of their hair—when she was only 4. So in order to help her get a wig, her buddy Tyler decided to grow his own hair out, even though the super-long length meant he was often mistaken for a girl.
"I've kind of gotten used to it," he explained to ABC Action News with a shrug. "I just want to make her happy."
Last week, Gabby finally took a scissors to Tyler's lengthy locks, chopping off a full 12 inches worth of ponytail! The hair will now go to Children With Hair Loss—a nonprofit organization that provides wigs to kids who have lost their hair at no cost—which will then turn Tyler's trimmings into a beautiful hairpiece for Gabby.

It's an incredible gift from an exemplary young man with a big, beautiful heart. I think he could probably teach us all a thing or two about the meaning of true friendship.
"He's a great person," Gabby said, summing it up. "He's amazing."
