Time for a re-up! Time for a re-up! Fans of Disney Junior's "Doc McStuffins," rejoice! Because the Doc is in, and she isn't going anywhere for at least another season.
After the Internet rebelled against the only show on the network to feature a female black character in the leading role potentially being canceled, we can officially confirm "Doc McStuffins" will live to see season #5.
Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager of Disney Junior Worldwide, said in a statement, "'Doc McStuffins' is an unmistakable example of our commitment to powerful storytelling that enriches and enlightens kids. I can think of no other children's television show in recent history that has touched as many lives and made the kind of impact around the world that Doc has. Our viewers have forged a deep connection with this series and are very vocal about how strongly they believe in these characters. We are excited to share with them many more stories about Doc and her toys when season five begins airing in 2018."
My girls love the show (and um, so do I). I appreciate how Doc is a problem-solver and a total smarty-pants; she makes an awfully good role model for my daughters. It seems I'm not alone in my adoration for the world's leading stuffed animal physician. In fact, according to a press release, a group of female African-American doctors began a "movement" called "We Are Doc McStuffins," since they saw themselves in the character and believe she can inspire young girls. "We Are Doc McStuffins" has grown into an organization of more than 4,700 women doctors called the Artemis Medical Society.
I mean, this show is powerful stuff. I can't believe its future was ever in jeopardy! Consider, too, that among its many fans is Michelle Obama—who even guest-starred as herself in an episode—as well as mom and Broadway star Audra McDonald, Geena Davis, David Copperfield, Taye Diggs, Patton Oswalt, and Carson Daly.
You can join the 150 million viewers worldwide who enjoy catching up with Doc, Stuffy, Hallie, Chilly, and the rest of the gang when the show airs daily on Disney Junior and the Disney Channel.
