Reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi may still be best known for her wild child days on Jersey Shore, but the 29-year-old really has come into her own as a mature, loving mama of two. And like all other moms in this day and age of rampant social media use, she's susceptible to mom-shaming. The most recent example: Snooki took to Instagram on Saturday, May 13 to share a photo of herself putting mascara on her 2-year-old daughter Giovanna.

"Getting sissy ready for her dance recital. This is the best Mother's Day gift to me! ?? #mommysgirl #minime @essexdanceacademy," Polizzi, who also has a 4-year-old son, Lorenzo, with husband Jionni LaValle, wrote.

Of course, tongue-wagging about the little girl's makeup ensued. Thankfully, positive, supportive remarks overwhelmed the haters' comments. "From one dance mom to another," one fan wrote. "This is their day to shine and sparkle. A little make up is perfectly fine and expected. Otherwise the lights on stage will wash their cute little faces out. She looks beautiful!"

But Polizzi didn't take the backlash lying down. In a follow-up post featuring a full-length photo with her toddler, clearly taken after Giovanna's dance recital, she wrote, "So proud of my little girl! ❤ (instead of not posting my kids for the people who respect and appreciate their photos, I will turn off the comments section. I don't need assholes telling me how to raise my child and judge them. I'm a damn good mom and know what I'm doing. Well most of the time.) Happy Mother's Day to all you kick ass Mamas out there! ❤"

Not that any time is an ideal one for mom-shaming, but on Mother's Day weekend — of all weekends! — we should be celebrating strong, loving moms like Polizzi. Cheers to her for standing up for herself — and for "kick ass mamas" everywhere.
