Sisters memorialize their beloved dog by recreating a treasured family photo.
Four Australian sisters gave their beloved family pet a loving send-off before putting him to sleep recently. Their tribute to their 16-year-old Jack Russell, Tigger, came in the form of a picture that has touched people around the world.
"We had to put my dog of 16 years down yesterday, but before we did we recreated our favourite photo with him," the Dobbie girls captioned their now viral image on Imgur. The photo, which has been viewed more than 2 million times, shows the grown Dobbie sisters' recreation of a picture snapped of them as kids. Shown side-by-side with the original shot, the new image captures the girls in the same exact poses, with Tigger front and center.
The result is truly heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. You can see how much Tigger has aged, but also how the girls' love for him has never changed.
Lump in throat, go away!
This photo touched me quite a bit because, growing up, our family had a dog named Penny for 16 years. It was a long time ago, but I still remember the ache I felt the night before we had to put her to sleep. Even though we were teenagers, my brother and I slept with Penny in my bed until dawn.
Now, our family dog Lola is getting up there in age; she's nearly 14! I can't imagine how painful it will be when the time comes to put her down. My three girls are very attached to her, as am I.
Man, times flies. And it just isn't fair. But I love this idea for memorializing a family pet. Here's hoping Tigger is enjoying all his favorite treats in dog heaven.
