The former couple wished their eldest, Ava, a very happy birthday on Instagram.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe were one of the most charismatic, young Hollywood couples of the late '90s and early '00s, and though they divorced back in 2007, they continue to amicably co-parent their two beautiful children, Ava Elizabeth and Deacon Reese Phillipe. Believe it or not, Ava turned 18 on Saturday, September 9. And in honor of their eldest's big birthday, both Reese and Ryan posted sweet birthday messages on social media.
Reese, who stars in the new flick Home Again, wrote alongside a throwback of herself with her little girl: “Happy 18th Birthday to my sweet girl @avaphillippe! Your kindness, grace, intelligence and humor never cease to amaze me. I love you and your HUGE [heart] and I feel so lucky that I get to be your mom. #proudmom #18.”
She followed that post up with a beautiful, recent shot of Ava, simply captioned, "#18."
Ava's proud papa also took to Instagram to share, “Happy birthday, punk. I love you more than any strangers need read, but… you are the coolest smartest most beautiful daughter a father could ever have and even though you’re no longer a child, you’ll always be my little girl. Happy 18th, princess.”
He went onto post several other shots of Ava over the years.
"and even though you're no longer a child, you'll always be my little girl. happy 18th, princess," he captioned this sweet photo of Ava dressed up for ballet class.
For her part, Ava took to the social media site to share a throwback shot of herself as a child.
And as if that wasn't heartwarming enough, Ava shared a shot of a stack of 18 letters that Reese had written to her each year, saving them to be opened on her milestone birthday. Such a thoughtful idea, and something Ava will undoubtedly cherish on her birthday and for her entire life.
