These days, fans of the iconic '90s toy Polly Pocket may very well have little ones of their own, and those millennial parents are surely flipping over Mattel's latest news. The toy brand plans to relaunch Polly Pocket with new mini compacts and an animated series.
The original compacts were discontinued in 1998 when Mattel took over the first manufacturer Bluebird Toys. In turn, the company transformed the mini compacts we knew and loved in the '90s into something quite different -- and bigger. But now, today's generation will get to experience the classic toy.
The line is reportedly hitting stores in June. A Mattel rep shared with Parents.com: "More than 30 years since the launch, Mattel announces the relaunch of Polly Pocket in the original micro-scale and compacts that made her a 90’s phenomenon. The all new product line is accompanied with an animated series to introduce a new generation to the world of Polly to amplify her story for modern fans. ... With more than 10 million compacts sold throughout the years, the compact product line nods to the brand’s heritage and surprise factor, but reflects an updated look of the characters and scenes from the content. ... The toy launch will be supported with a marketing campaign with Polly inspiring girls to be capable, courageous and tenacious in their own lives, just like her. Polly Pocket product will hit toy shelves this summer."
They also noted that the series will follow "Polly and her friends as they embrace big adventures in a shrunken size, thanks to Polly's magic locket."
Sounds absolutely charming, and something parents everywhere will highly anticipate sharing with their kiddos!
