Of Course Jessica Simpson Is Being Criticized for This Photo of Her 5-Year-Old Wearing Lipstick

Jessica Simpson is one of those celeb moms who could conceivably post a photo of her children with the cutest dog you've ever seen or standing in the middle of Disneyland, and she'd somehow receive a bevy of backlash from commenters. Just last month, she received a huge wave of criticism for her 5-year-old daughter Maxwell Drew's Belle costume. So, it's no surprise that Jessica's latest photo of Maxi has racked up judgmental remarks.

Yesterday, Thursday, November 30, Jess took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with Maxi trying on cute lipstick colors at the MAC store. "This is NOT an #ad, @maccosmetics is my daughter’s favorite store! Mommy-Daughter Day with #MAXIDREW #girlygoth," the fashion designer and former singer wrote alongside the cute shot.

Commenters soon swept in to judge and critique the mommy-daughter moment.

"Way too young for that to be her favorite store," one shared. "Her favorite store?? OMG. She should be playing outside or learning about the world not sitting in a chair putting on make up at MAC. What's wrong with you," another said, while a third wrote, "How about taking your daughter somewhere fun where she can be a little girl. Instead of being brainwashed that she needs makeup to look pretty."

Thankfully, Jess received even more positive remarks from other moms who jumped in to defend the celeb mom and simply having fun with your little girl at a beauty counter.

"All kids play with makeup even my nieces own makeup and play around n they are 6-8 so stop hating haters!!!!!!" one commenter wrote. Another said, "Too cute. Absolutely love it! PS - why aren’t little girls allowed to try on make up with their mamas? We all did it. Whether in a Mac store or in their bathroom. Get over it!" A third shared, "Love this candid photo. You can tell this is really her enjoying time with her kid."

Of course, every mom's free to have her own opinion on how young is too young to play with (which is different from wearing!) makeup. But all this photo seems to boil down to is a sweet moment between mother and daughter. Come on, people. We really just need to let this loving mama live.
