There was a time when North Carolina mom-of-four Suzy Goodwin may have worried that her triplets would never leave the NICU. But now, her 14-month-olds Charlotte, Gabriel, and Gideon are the stars of the Internet after having "run" a half marathon with their mama.
Goodwin pushed the trio in a 3.5-foot-wide, 120-lb. stroller for the entire 13.1 miles of the North Carolina Halloween Half Marathon, according to People. The avid runner, who is also a mom to a 3-year-old and has competed in 50 marathons and ultramarathons, told the magazine, "The great thing about running as a sport is that it grows with you. When you become a parent, it's less individual and more something you can share with your kids."
But Goodwin wasn't just racing to involve her kids and expose "the entire family to a healthy lifestyle." She also raised funds for the Cape Fear Valley Health NICU, which cared for her triplets after they were born at 30 weeks, shortly after her husband returned from serving in Afghanistan.
Goodwin further elaborated about her family's struggle, writing in part on Facebook, "God has blessed us beyond measure. There was a time I never thought I'd have children...now I have 4 and can share my favorite sport with them!" She also wrote, "I can't wait to show this [video of the race] to the babies when they are older because it highlights the NICU. God worked through the staff there to heal our babies and grow our hearts."
This incredible mom shared a funny story with People about surviving the race course with her brood, saying, "At miles two to four, Charlotte was reaching over and stealing her brothers' toys and crackers. I had to stop a few times to reprimand her and calm them down." She adds, "At mile seven, I had to stop to change Gabriel's diaper. I heard the 'I've pooped' cry before I smelled it. Luckily, there was a trash can nearby!"
Despite these challenges, Goodwin is now an official Guinness World Record holder, having completed the race with a triple stroller in 2 hours, 1 minute and 19 seconds! That's includes stopping to change a diaper!
All hail Suzy Goodwin! You are downright inspiring.
