Out with the old and in with the unicorns! For the first time in 10 years, General Mills has added a new permanent marshmallow to Lucky Charms cereal, and the shape is that of a magical unicorn!

The company had announced earlier that the hourglass marshmallow would be retired, but its replacement was up in the air -- and dependent on votes from social media users who were asked to weigh in on the matter with emojis.

Thankfully, there's a unicorn emoji, because it's clearly the logical choice for a new marshmallow!

It's even more special, because it's the first marshmallow in the cereal to be inspired by and created by kids. According to, Josh DeWitt, marketing manager of Lucky Charms, said of the final choice, "We decided to introduce a new charm with the help of the keepers of magic themselves - kids. They spoke, and after hearing their love for the magical unicorn, we listened."

Twitter users obviously agree.

It's actually a bit surprising that it took this long for Lucky Charms to include a magical unicorn marshmallow. Perhaps now, all is right in the world of fan-favorite cereals!
