He Told His Preschool Class He Would Marry Her, and Then He Did
Laura Scheel and Matt Gordsky met when they were in preschool. But even way back then, Matt knew he would one day marry her.
Wanna hear the amazing story of how I met my husband? It starts like this: "Girl walks into a bar..." And then it ends. Because that's the whole story right there—I met my husband in a bar. So creative, right? I mean, millions of people meet their future spouses that way every single day.
But not married couple Laura Scheel and Matt Grodsky. These two go waaaay back. As in way back to preschool.
"Laura and I met in preschool," Matt explained in a recent post on the TheWayWeMet Instagram page. "One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my preschool class, declaring that I would marry her someday."
"I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day," he continued. "Eventually, we lost touch upon entering our Elementary School days and for the next seven years, our family's annual Christmas cards was the only way we ever saw each other's faces. It wasn't until High School that we reconnected by happenstance through a mutual friend. Within two weeks, we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend. We continued to date throughout all of High School, even though we went to different schools. We even stuck together long-distance while attending colleges in different states. We remained a resilient couple until May 23rd, 2015 when I decided to stay true to my preschool pledge and make Laura my wife."
Such an amazing love story. So did Matt ever think this day would come?
"I would see her on a Christmas card every year and think maybe I'll see her again," he explained to Parents.com. "But when we reconnected in 2008 we knew this was real. Fate is funny that way, it decides when things will happen."
So true. And the best part? When Matt proposed to Laura, he did it in the place it all began—outside their old preschool classroom.
So sweet! "I had the idea in my head through high school and college," he told us. "I am a sentimental guy so the preschool seemed perfect."
