Fans patiently swooning over real-life fairytale Enchanted for the past 10 years can finally give their DVRs a rest because the highly anticipated sequel is close to production. The duel animated-live action film’s sequel entitled Disenchanted may just be in the early stages of creation, but director Adam Shankman has announced that the script is nearing completion.
“We are handing in a script in a couple weeks that I’m super happy with. Then gotta get the music written,” Shankman told /Film.
So, what can fans expect after a decade of re-runs? As it turns out, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey will be returning as Princess Giselle and divorce lawyer Robert Philip. The movie will be set in real-time, showing the effects that 10 years of reality can have on a what was supposed to be a “happily ever after” romance.
Co-stars James Marsden and Idina Menzel will also be returning, although their character plots are not clear at this time.
One thing we do know is that Disenchanted’s soundtrack has big shoes to fill. Three out of the five original songs from Enchanted’s soundtrack were Oscar-nominated, and Shankman aims to top his previous achievements. The highly respected director confirmed to /Film that we can expect a lot more songs in the sequel.
There is no denying that Disenchanted will be a hit after the major success of it’s predecessor—who grossed over $340 million and inspired a new take on the classic portrayal of the Disney princess.
Plus, who doesn’t love seeing Patrick Dempsey aka “McDreamy” as the prince of our dreams? Let’s just say we will be preordering our tickets as soon as possible.
