During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote his movie The Huntsman, insanely good-looking actor Chris Hemsworth shared a little tidbit from his life as a dad to three kids.
It seems his 4-year-old daughter India has a bit of penis envy growing up with twin brothers, who are two years her junior. As the Aussie star told Ellen, India came to him the other day and said, "I want one of those things that Sasha and Tristan have... the things in between their legs."
Hemsworth tried to comfort his daughter by saying, "Well, girls have breasts," to which she assured him, "I don't want breasts! I want a penis!"
I happen to think he handled his answer to her demands in the best possible way, by saying, "You can be whatever you want to be." That's exactly what I would have said; after all, she is 4.
In our house, there's a lot of curiosity about penises as well, but for a totally different reason: we have three daughters.
I remember one time I was babysitting for a friend's son, and my girls were literally crowded around him, staring, while I changed his diaper. "Why does he have a tail?" my 2-year-old wanted to know.
Um...not exactly, honey.
Another time, when my oldest daughter was around the same age, she watched a friend of mine change her son during a playdate, and her observation was that he had a boob on his butt.
Because my girls aren't around penises, I guess it's only natural they have a lot of questions—and observations. I'm loving that, for now, it's all totally innocent!
Has this conversation ever come up in your house?
