Confession time: We are a Disney-obsessed family. Which is why I was totally enthralled by renderings by Chilean artist Fernanda Suarez that imagine what Disney princesses would look like, now.
From Belle to Jasmine, and Cinderella to Pocahontas, Suarez's illustrations fuse our favorite princesses' classic beauty with modern touches like ear piercings and denim jeans.
The illustrator and concept artist told Parents about her inspiration for the images, "Those movies and stories have been part of my life since I was a little girl and even until the present day, I love them with all of my heart."
Saurez added, "I also enjoy fashion, beauty and all things like that, so I wanted to create [the Disney princesses] as people that you could see in the present day, incorporating trends and modern elements, like someone you could meet on the streets."
I love that according to the artist, these renderings were things she wanted to see, so she created them! And now we get to enjoy them, too. I'm most drawn to Belle, who in Suarez's illustration, is wearing a jean jacket with a rose patch, and of course, it engrossed in a book. I also think Snow White is pretty impressive; her modern, hip hairdo and peekaboo-shoulder top would def make the Evil Queen jealous!
About the reaction to her work, Suarez told us, "I think people have liked [the illustrations] so far and that makes me very happy."
