The actress says having a toddler helped her connect with her character. We're not sure that's a good thing.

Did you guys watch The Sinner last night? It's the new limited series on USA starring Jessica Biel as a woman who stabs a man to death in front of her husband and young son on the beach, and then has no recollection of ever meeting him and can't explain why she did it.

Sounds pretty dark, right? And I'd imagine it was a difficult role for the actress, who's a mom to a young son herself, to take on. But oddly enough, Biel credits becoming a parent to her 2-year-old son Silas with husband Justin Timberlake for actually helping her get into character.

"I truly understand what it means to have a child," Biel explained to E! News at the show's recent premiere. "You know, the actual process of it. And then what it means to be a parent. So playing a person who commits a crime like this and then has to really deal with the repercussions of how does that look like for her family unit—that I really understand and I feel very connected to that idea."

Not sure we totally understand her reasoning there, but OK. Then again, we've only seen one episode of the murder mystery so far. The show is based on the novel of the same name, and the rest of the installments—there are 8 in total—will follow the aftermath of the crime, as Biel's character struggles to figure out why she did what she did.

In the meantime, Biel is keeping things real over on her Instagram, where she's been sharing the kinds of hilarious no-holds-barred posts we've come to expect and love her for.
