American Girl Introduces New Korean-American Doll 'Z'
Meet Z Yang! She's a Korean-American girl from Seattle who loves photography, and she's the latest addition to the American Girl collection.
You may recall how in February, American Girl introduced a new collection of dolls called "More Characters To Love," which included its first full-sized boy doll, Logan (what took so long?).
Now, the doll maker is excited to welcome its newest character to love, Korean-American girl Z Yang, or "Z," short for Suzie.
Z, who hails from Seattle and loves photography, is part of American Girl's effort to represent more diverse backgrounds, creative interests, and experiences for girls today, according to a press release. She was actually inspired by the company's web series Z's Crew, based on stop-motion vlogger character Z Yang.
To celebrate the launch of Z, American Girl invites fans to meet her and her friends at its retail locations nationwide, starting the weekend of April 28.
There, girls can also catch up with the 2017 Girl of the Year, Gabriela McBride, a spoken-word poet who encourages kids to express themselves through her favorite medium.
We applaud American Girl's endeavors to make every child feel like there's a doll who represents them. Clearly the company recognizes how powerful the experience of seeing and playing with a doll who looks and acts like them is for kids of all backgrounds and genders!
