Moms know how versatile marinara sauce is, whether it's on top of pasta, pizza, meatballs, or on the side as a dip. While jarred sauce is certainly convenient, it's really simple to make your own with fresh tomatoes. When tomatoes are in season make big batches of this sauce to freeze for easy meals down the road.
2 lbs. plum tomatoes, roughly chopped
1/2 yellow onion (not chopped)
3 Tbs. tomato paste
2 Tbs. butter
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. sugar
1. Blend the tomatoes in a food processor or blender. Transfer to a saucepan.
2. Add the onion, tomato paste, butter, salt, and sugar. Simmer partially covered for 50 minutes, stirring occasionally. Discard the onion before serving.
