Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Spray two 8-inch round cake pans with canola oil; set aside. In a small bowl, beat buttermilk and egg. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and raisins. Add milk mixture to dry ingredients and stir; turn dough onto a floured board. Knead for a few minutes, until smooth.
Divide dough in half and press into cake pans. Make pie-wedge slashes across tops of loaves about 1/2-inch deep. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown. Place on wire racks to cool. Each loaf makes about 8 slices.
