Servings: 8 Prep 15 mins Cook 15 mins

  • 3 pounds baking potatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 3/4 cup half-and-half
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Make It

1. Peel the potatoes; then cut into 1-inch chunks. Place the potato chunks and whole garlic in a large pot with enough salted water to cover. Cover the pot and bring to boiling. Reduce the heat; simmer for 15 minutes or until the potato chunks are knife-tender. Drain the potatoes and garlic in a colander. Transfer to a large bowl.

2. Add the half-and-half, butter, salt, pepper and nutmeg to the potatoes in the bowl. Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes coarsely, crushing the garlic into the potatoes so it is evenly mixed throughout. Makes 8 servings.
