Royal Icing
Yield: 3 cups Prep 5 mins


  • 1 box (16 oz) confectioners' sugar
  • 6 tablespoons warm water
  • 3 tablespoons powdered egg whites (such as Just Whites)
  • Red, green, orange and black gel food coloring, piping bags and writing tips

Make It

1. In a large bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, warm water and powdered egg whites. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 5 minutes.

2. Keep covered with plastic wrap until ready to use; divide and tint to desired colors for each recipe. Transfer some of the tinted icing into piping bags fitted with small writing tips.
