  • Preheat oven to 400°F. In a medium bowl, mix flaxseed and water and let stand for 5 minutes. Add next 8 ingredients (through black pepper) and stir. Using a potato masher, combine the mixture until half becomes smooth (lentils don’t have to be completely mashed).

  • Form mixture into 20 balls, about 1 Tbs. for each. Place on a large parchment-covered baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Gently coat with 2/3 cup marinara sauce. Bake 10 minutes more.

  • Cook pasta according to package directions. Serve with meatballs and remaining sauce. Top with basil, if desired.
