Fresh Berry Topping

Makes: 2 cups. Prep: 10 minutes. Cook: 3 to 5 minutes.

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, washed and hulled
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Make It

1. Slice strawberries in 1/4-inch slices and place in mixing bowl.

2. In a saucepan combine sugar, orange juice and orange zest; bring to a boil over medium heat. Stir with wooden spoon to dissolve sugar.

3. Once syrup is at a rolling boil, remove from heat and pour over sliced strawberries. Let sit while cooking waffles. Serve over waffles.


4. If you like, substitute some of the strawberries with other berries. And watch out for boiling syrup; it is very sticky and can really burn if you get it on your skin.
