Servings: 6

  • 6 wooden skewers (10-inch)
  • Green food coloring
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 42 large marshmallows
  • Purple liquid concentrate food coloring
  • 4 cups frosted whole-grain oat cereal with marshmallow pieces OR: 4 cups oat-round cereal

Make It

1. Paint skewers with green food coloring; let dry.

Prepare Hyacinths:

2. Melt butter and marshmallows in heavy-bottom saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally. Pour into large ovenproof bowl. Stir in purple food coloring to tint. Add cereal, stirring until well coated If cereal hardens, place in 300 degree F oven to soften, about 10 minutes.

3. When cool enough to handle, use oiled hands to shape about 1/2 cup of mixture into thick cat-tail shape, about 4-1/2 inches long. Insert skewer through bottom of cereal mixture, running lengthwise through center of flower. Place on waxed paper. Repeat to make total of 6 hyacinths. Air-dry on waxed paper overnight. Makes 6 hyacinths.
