Melt butter in medium-size skillet over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and maple syrup. Add pear halves and juice from 1 can. Cook 8 minutes.
Stir together cornstarch and water in small bowl until smooth; stir into pear mixture. Cook, stirring frequently, until thickened and clear, 3 to 4 minutes. Serve over ice cream or pound cake. Makes 6 servings.
