Italian "S" Cookies

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 tablespoon solid vegetable shortening
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • Red, green coating disks, melted

Make It

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

2. Beat eggs, vanilla in small bowl. Melt shortening, butter in saucepan; cool slightly; add to egg mixture. Add milk, sugar; beat until smooth.

3. Mix flour, baking powder. Add to egg mixture. Transfer dough to cookie press fitted with star plate. Pipe S shapes on greased baking sheet.

4. Bake in 375 degree F oven for 5 minutes on bottom rack. Move to top rack; bake 5 to 6 minutes, until firm but not brown. Cool; drizzle cookies with melted red and green disks. Makes about 3-1/2 dozen cookies.
