Cocoa Pretzels
Yield: 3-1/2 dozen Prep 25 mins Bake 350°F 9 mins


  • 1 16 1/2 ounce package refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Chocolate icing:
  • 2 powdered egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
White icing:
  • powdered egg whites to equal 2 whites
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • white nonpareils
  • red nonpareils
  • green nonpareils

Make It

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. On a well-floured surface, knead together cookie dough, cocoa powder, confectioners' sugar and cinnamon.

3. Roll dough, one heaping teaspoon at a time, into balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a 9-inch rope. Form into pretzel shape and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Repeat, placing 2 inches apart.

4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 9 minutes. Cool on baking sheet for 1 minute. Remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.

Chocolate icing:

5. Beat powdered egg whites and water as directed on package until foamy. Beat in sugar and cocoa powder until smooth.

White icing:

6. Beat powdered egg white and water as directed on package until foamy. Beat in sugar until smooth.

7. Dip cooled cookies in icings and place on rack over waxed paper. Sprinkle with nonpareils and allow to set up.
