  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped green onion
  • 2 dashes red-pepper seasoning
  • 3/4 cup milk

Make It

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease baking sheet.

2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in green onion.

3. Combine pepper seasoning and milk. Make well in center of flour mixture. Pour about 2/ 3 cup of milk into well. Stir flour mixture and milk just until dough comes together. If too dry, add remaining milk. Knead dough on lightly floured work surface 1 minute. Pat into 1-inch-thick round. Place on prepared baking sheet.

4. Bake in 375 degree F oven for 30 to 35 minutes until lightly browned. Cool briefly on a wire rack. Cut into 8 equal wedges.
