Beef Satay with Curried Potatoes

  • 3 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 12 ounces beef sirloin, cut into thin strips
  • 1 large red and/or yellow sweet pepper, cut into bite-size pieces
  • Curried Potatoes
  • Snipped fresh cilantro

Make It

1. In a medium bowl stir together the soy sauce, garlic, ginger, five-spice powder, and pepper. Add beef and toss to coat. Cover and chill for 1 hour.

2. Drain beef, discarding marinade. Thread beef strips and pepper pieces onto skewers. Heat an oiled grill pan over medium-high heat. Add skewers in batches. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until browned and meat is of desired doneness. Serve with Curried Potatoes. Sprinkle potatoes with cilantro. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Curried Potatoes


  • 3 medium gold or red potatoes (about 1 pound), cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Make It

1. Heat oven to 450 degrees F. In a medium bowl, combine potatoes, olive oil, curry powder, salt, and pepper; toss to coat well. Spread in a 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes or until tender and browned, stirring once. Makes about 2 cups.
