Spiced Turkey Chili

Ingredients

  • 2 medium-size onions, chopped
  • 2 sweet green peppers, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon red-pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (12 ounces) beer
  • 1 square (1 ounce) semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • Sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese, for garnish (optional)

Make It

1. In large saucepan, saute onions, peppers and garlic in oil until slightly softened, 3 minutes. Stir in chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper flakes, cinnamon; cook 1 minute. Add turkey; cook until not pink, 5 minutes.

2. Add tomatoes, beer, chocolate, tomato paste and beans; simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes. Serve with sour cream and cheese, if desired. Makes 10 servings.
