Pregnancy Pregnancy Development Stages Can my baby sense touch before she's born? By Parents Editors Published on July 2, 2015 Share Tweet Pin Email Q: Can my baby sense touch before she's born? A: Just before the eighth week of your pregnancy, your baby develops her first sensitivity to touch. This starts in the cheeks and then quickly extends to the genital area (10 weeks), palms (11 weeks), and soles of the feet (12 weeks). By 17 weeks, your baby's tummy and tush are also sensitive. Your baby may experiment with this newfound sense of touch by stroking her face or sucking on her thumb. By 32 weeks, nearly every part of her body can feel heat, cold, pressure, and pain. --Karin A.
