Q: I am 27 week pregnant with my second baby and the total weight I have gained is just 1 kg.  Is this dangerous or abnormal?  I am worried.

A: What is "normal" weight gain depends upon what your body mass index (BMI) was at the start of the pregnancy. During the pregnancy, women who have a normal BMI should gain between 20-35 pounds, women with a low BMI should gain more than the normal weight, and women with an elevated BMI should gain less than the normal weight.  If you have a normal or low BMI, you should consult your physician for possible reasons why you are not having normal weight gain.  If you have an elevated BMI, you may not need to be concerned, but you should still talk to your doctor.
