Is it ok to take steroids for my asthma while pregnant?
A: Although steroids sound scary to take during pregnancy, they are actually used quite commonly. Doctors use steroids to treat women with many different pre-existing medical conditions, such as asthma (like yourself), lupus, different skin conditions, and allergies. In addition, doctors often prescribe steroids for women who may go into preterm labor; this helps mature their babies' lungs, brains, and intestines. As long as you have cleared the dosage you are taking with your OB and primary care or pulmonary doctor, you and your baby will be absolutely fine.
