How can my emotions and stress affect my baby?
Q: I'M 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND I'M FACING A SAD SITUATION RIGHT NOW THAT HAS ME CRYING ALL THE TIME AND NOT SLEEPING WELL, HOW MUCH CAN THIS AFFECT MY BABY?
A: Stress can have a negative affect on the baby if it has a direct negative effect on the mom - for instance, if you begin losing weight during the pregnancy because you are too upset or stressed to eat then yes there may be consequences to how the baby is developing. Getting yourself in with a counselor to work thru your stress or asking your OB if you may need some medications, even if just for a short period of time during or after the pregnancy, may benefit you. Hang in there! All things do eventaully pass.
