Q: Is being around someone with shingles while I'm pregnant dangerous to the baby?

A: If a pregnant woman becomes infected with Varicella Zoster ( the virus that causes chicken pox and shingles) then there can be adverse effects to the baby. Any woman who is exposed to someone with either shingles or chicken pox needs to get tested to see if she is immune to the virus. Testing is a simple blood draw in your doctor's office.
