Even if you've already gained more weight than your doctor recommended, it's never too late to start making healthy changes.
It's best not to gain excessive weight during pregnancy. But what if you have already gained more than you or your doctor would have liked? Although excessive weight gain can increase your risk for gestational diabetes, back problems, and a cesarean delivery, the majority of women who gain more weight than they should have no serious problems during pregnancy, and they deliver healthy babies. If the weight is still coming on fast, take a careful look at the reason for your weight gain. Have you given yourself permission to eat whatever you like? Have you abandoned your exercise program? Once you figure out why you're gaining, try to make some changes.
It's never too late to start eating smart. Begin to learn and practice good nutrition habits now, and you'll keep your weight gain down for the rest of your pregnancy. You'll also know how to eat after your baby is born when you?re trying to lose your pregnancy pounds.
