Watermelon Mocktail

Watermelon Mocktail

Stay cool this summer with this super refreshing melon mocktail. The watermelon in this fruity drink is packed with immune-boosting lycopene and vitamins A and C.

Prep: 10 mins / Cook: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup watermelon (blended, shaken or muddled)
  • 1/4 cup white grape juice
  • 1/4 cup tonic water
  • 1 orange wedge
  • Watermelon wedge for garnish (optional)

Make It

1. Put ice cubes in a glass and then pour in watermelon and white grape juice. Add tonic water and squeeze orange wedge on top; stir.

2. To finish the drink, cut a small triangle of watermelon and slide it on the rim.

Passion Fruit Thyme Mocktail

Passion Fruit Thyme Mocktail

Simply mix pulp from your passion fruit with distilled water, simple syrup, lime, and pineapple juice. Garnish the drink with a sprig of thyme.

Prep: 5 mins / Start to Finish: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 3/4 ounce simple syrup (such as Stirrings Simple Syrup, or make your own; instructions below)
  • 1 passion fruit, cut in half
  • 2 large sprigs fresh thyme
  • 3 ounces distilled water
  • 1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice (or 1 cup pineapple chunks, juice extracted in a juicer)

Make It

1. To make simple syrup, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat.

2. Stir until sugar dissolves, then increase heat until mixture comes to a boil.

3. Remove from heat after about three minutes and allow to cool.

4. Chill cooled syrup in refrigerator for 2 hours before using (remaining syrup will keep refrigerated for up to one month; use to sweeten iced tea, lemonade, and other beverages).

5. Scoop the pulp from the passion fruit.

6. In a pint mixing glass, add pulp and one sprig of thyme and press several times with a cocktail muddler.

7. Add distilled water, lime juice, simple syrup, and pineapple juice.

8. Fill glass with ice and shake vigorously for about 6 seconds.

9. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve.

Mango Margarita Mocktail

If you are trying to keep a new pregnancy under wraps while dealing with a little first-trimester-nausea, then this is the drink for you. This refreshing beverage gets its kick from ginger, which has been shown to calm queasiness.

Prep: 10 mins / Start to Finish: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 lime wedge for garnish (optional)
  • Ground granola for garnish (optional)
  • 4 - 6 raspberries (or 2 strawberries)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup mango juice
  • 1/4 cup grapefruit juice

Make It

1. Run the lime wedge around the rim of a glass. Dip the glass in the granola.

2. Muddle the raspberries or strawberries at the bottom of a glass, and pour in lime juice. Add grated ginger, mango juice, grapefruit juice, and ice.

3. Stir to blend all flavors, and enjoy.

Kiwi Lychee Mocktail

Even if you aren't planning a babymoon getaway, you'll feel like you're on a tropical island while sipping on this zesty, low-calorie mocktail.

Prep: 5 mins / Start to Finish: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 kiwi slice, skin removed
  • 1 1/2 ounces distilled water
  • 1/2 ounce Monin Lychee Syrup
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces soda water
  • 1 slice kiwi, skin-on
  • 1 lemon wedge

Make It

1. In a pint mixing glass, add skinless kiwi slice and press several times with a cocktail muddler.

2. Add distilled water, lychee syrup, and lime juice.

3. Fill glass with ice and shake vigorously for 6 seconds.

4. Add soda water to lychee and lime mixture, then strain into a Collins (tumbler) glass over ice.

5. Garnish with skin-on kiwi slice and lemon wedge and serve.

Bellini Mocktail

This non-alcoholic bellini is perfect for summer brunches with your girlfriends! Simply mix apple, peach, and a little lemon juice with sparkling water in a champagne flute.

Prep: 10 mins / Start to Finish: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup peach juice
  • 1 wedge lemon juice
  • Agave nectar, pasteurized honey or simple syrup (to taste)
  • Sparkling water
  • Apple slice for garnish (optional)

Make It

1. Add apple, peach, and lemon juices to a champagne flute.

2. Heat agave syrup (or use simple syrup) and stir in.

3. Top off drink with sparkling water. To finish, wedge the apple slice on the rim.

Tip: To stir in the agave more easily, heat it in the microwave or stovetop before stirring it in.

Blood Orange Basil Mocktail

This fresh mockail is so spirited, you'll forget that it's not actually made with spirits!

Prep: 5 mins / Start to Finish: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/4 blood orange section
  • 1/2 pint loosely packed Thai basil leaves (available at Asian grocery stores, or substitute sweet basil)
  • 2 ounces distilled water
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 3/4 ounce pasteurized liquid egg whites*
  • 1 Thai basil leaf, reserved from half pint

Make It

1. In a pint mixing glass, add blood orange section and Thai basil leaves (reserve 1 leaf for garnish) and press with several times with a cocktail muddler.

2. Add distilled water, lime juice, simple syrup, and pasteurized egg whites.*

3. Shake for 6 seconds to froth.

4. Fill glass with ice and shake for an additional 6 seconds.

5. Strain mixture into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a Thai basil leaf and serve.

*Consuming unpasteurized egg whites during pregnancy is not advised due to the risk of salmonella.

Frozen Watermelon Mojito Mocktail

Frozen Watermelon Mojito Mocktail

Not only is this drink a perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth this summer; its 92% water content will also help keep you hydrated and feeling full.

Prep: 15 mins / Start to Finish: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 4 cups seedless watermelon chunks (About 3 1/2 lb watermelon)
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon rum extract, optional
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh mint, minced, plus extra for garnish

Make It

1. Puree watermelon chunks in a blender to yield about 3 cups of watermelon puree.

2. Pour about 2 cups into 1 standard sized ice cube tray and freeze till solid (several hours or overnight) and reserve remaining watermelon puree in refrigerator.

3. When ready to make mojitos, place tray of watermelon puree cubes (16 cubes), reserved watermelon puree, lemon-lime soda, lime juice, and rum extract in blender.

4. Blend until smooth. Stir in fresh mint and pour into 2 tall glasses or 4 martini glasses. Garnish with additional fresh mint. Umbrella optional.

Tip: If making real mojitos, eliminate the rum extract and add 1/4-1/3 cup rum to each batch depending on how strong you want your drinks (you may want to add more lime juice if it tastes too sweet). This recipe is easily doubled or tripled for a crowd – just prepare them in multiple blender batches following the instructions above.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup low-fat milk, calcium-enriched soy milk, or yogurt
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • whipped cream
  • fresh or canned pineapple slices

Make It

1. Place all ingredients except whipped cream in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Add more or less ice depending on the consistency you prefer.

2. Pour into a tall glass. Insert a long straw and garnish with whipped cream and pineapple slices. It's chock-full of calcium and vitamins for you and baby!

Important note: If you have gestational diabetes, are on a sugar-restricted diet, or are allergic to any ingredients in these recipes, check with your physician for alternative safe ingredients you can use.

Faux Sangria

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cranberry juice cocktail
  • 2 cup decaffeinated iced tea (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 orange
  • 1 lime
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup ice

Make It

Cut the orange and lime into thick slices and place in a pitcher. Pour cranberry juice, lime juice, and tea into pitcher. Add lemon slices and ice, and chill for 10 minutes before drinking. This drink is perfectly light and refreshing on a hot day.
