Q: Is it safe to paint houses daily while pregnant?

A: There are no good studies that measure the risk exposure of household paints and the developing fetus. That being said, it is generally believed that any risk to a fetus is minimal if proper precautions are taken. In general, limiting the amount of exposure by wearing a mask, gloves, making sure that there is good ventilation in the home, take frequent breaks, do not keep food or beverages near the paint or room where there is fresh paint, or having someone else paint for you. Avoid any paint made before 1970 and do not scrape or attempt to remove any paint from that time as that is when lead was a routine ingredient.
