Remember the model with pregnancy abs who sparked quite a social media firestorm? Well, now another fit mama-to-be is raising eyebrows for her workout regimen while expecting.
"Alot of people express concern over women exercising in pregnancy and I 110% understand why," Guidolin wrote in a caption to the pic (above right). "There are so many myths, old wives tales & opinions out there it is hard to understand what is the truth and what is made up. In my opinion, listen to no one except your qualified & trusted medical staff."
The model is also a nutritionist and fit-lifestyle author, so she does have some bona fides. Nevertheless, her weightlifting photo sparked major backlash about what's healthy for a an expecting mom—and what's just way too much to be safe.
All of her followers' feedback prompted the model to post a followup photo, in which she poses in a sports bra at the gym, with a lengthy caption defending herself.
"Woah... My weight training photo yesterday sparked some debate! I was not expecting that, however if that photo is what it takes to get people talking about exercise during pregnancy and the benefits then I am happy to spark up the topic. There are so many myths & old wives tales when it comes to pregnancy—from early pregnancy until your baby becomes a toddler! However, if you have been given clearance from your medical practitioner to continue your exercise regime, then I highly recommend you continue exercising for the health of yourself—and your babe (or babies!)"
There's absolutely no question that exercise is recommended for a healthy pregnancy, and the more you can safely sustain it for the duration, the better the health outcomes.
The only question, then, is what is safe? That answer will vary for individual pregnant women on the recommendations of individual doctors.
