The medical community recommends that average-weight women carrying a single baby in pregnancy gain in the neighborhood of 25 to 35 pounds. And wouldn't it be nice if we all fell magically into that ideal window?
Well, reality frequently gets in the way of ideal guidelines, especially when it comes to the wild journey of pregnancy. And not just for us mere mortals — but for celebrity mamas too. Turns out stars are just like us! (Sometimes.)
Case in point: Kendra Wilkinson Baskett recently revealed that she gained 55 pounds during her second pregnancy. "I started at 120 and ended up at 175," she told Giuliana Rancic in an interview recapped in E! Online.
And although she's got plenty on her plate these days with a 4-month-old daughter, 4-year-old son, and marital turmoil amid allegations of her husband's cheating — she's found a diet that she says is working "so good" to get back in shape. She credits Atkins with the fast weight loss, though she says she's really having to work at it instead of the weight just magically dropping off.
"I'm an athlete. I thought I would lose the weight so fast right after having the [first] baby, but I didn't," she said.
And ain't that the truth? For many of us, postpartum recovery and fitness takes major commitment. And it's refreshing to see a star whose pregnancy and post-baby arc seems to mirror many of the experiences of those of us here in the real world.
No, doctors don't advise a 55-pound weight gain — but life happens. Even to celebs.
