One celeb mama is inviting every last one of us to be a part of her baby shower. But she doesn't feel a bit bashful about the etiquette implications of asking so many people to buy gifts, nor about having a shower for a second baby. That's because we're not talking about ordinary cupcakes and games—but something way, way more important.
Shakira, who is now expecting her second son with soccer star boyfriend Gerard Pique, is inviting everyone to share in the couple's good news by buying a gift from her registry for impoverished moms and kids all around the world through her World Baby Shower project with Unicef.
Through the campaign, anyone can go online to buy a measles vaccine for $12, or a basic family water kit for $181.30, or another essential in a range of prices from Shakira's registry. (The couple did a version of the awesome World Baby Shower concept back in 2012, too, when they were getting ready to welcome their first son.)
The star shared details of the latest shower on her Facebook page—where she has close to 107 million fans, so imagine the impact all those folks can make, thanks to her inspiration.
"We wanted to give something to other parents and babies around the world, who live in conditions of extreme poverty and vulnerability but whose lives can be improved greatly by small contributions from others," she wrote in the post.
And she encouraged other expecting moms of means to get on board with a similar shower approach. "Let's make the arrival of our new babies be a blessing to us, our families, and to many others as well," she wrote. "Thanks for your support—we can't wait to hear about your baby showers and to celebrate together."
Now there's a celebrity who knows that good fortune is worth sharing—especially when it comes to the community of moms and babies all around the globe. Hello, role-model mama!
