Back in 2013, twins in Ireland made headlines worldwide when they were born 87 days apart. Now, twin siblings are in the news not for being born so far apart, but for being born in completely different years!

Maria Esperanza Flores Rios of California welcomed a baby boy -- arrived at 11:58 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2017, according to local Delano, California ABC affiliate He was 5 lbs., 9 oz, 18 inches. Then, her daughter was born 12:16 a.m. Monday, January 1, 2018, weighing in at 4 lbs., 10 oz. and was 16 inches.

Doctors explained that the baby girl was slightly breached, so she was delivered via C-section. The doctor who delivered the babies also noted that this was the first time he had delivered twins in two different years over the course of his 30-year career!

While her brother was born in 2017, the baby girl is thought to be the first baby born in 2018 in Kern County, California.

The uniquely timed birth of the twins occurred a month earlier than the parents expected. Their little boy is named Joaquin Ontiveros, Jr. and their daughter is Aitana de Jesus Ontiveros.

Congrats to the family! What a way to ring in the new year!
