Natalie Portman is nominated for Best Actress at the 89th Annual Academy Awards this weekend for her portrayal of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the biopic Jackie, but the talented star won't be heading to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday night. Portman released a statement today explaining why she'll be skipping the Oscars, as well as the Independent Spirit Awards, where she's nominated for best female lead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards," Portman explained. "I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends."

Portman and her husband Benjamin Millepied are expecting their second baby, who will be a younger sibling to their son, 5-year-old Aleph. Although the celeb mom hasn't shared her due date with the press, a source told Us back in November "Natalie's baby is due around the Oscars."

At the the Golden Globes in January, Portman looked very pregnant, glowy, and gorgeous in a golden yellow Prada gown. She always seems to knock it out of the park with her maternity style choices. (Portman was pregnant with Aleph when she took home her first Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Black Swan in 2011.) And she's been opting for some seriously beautiful, retro-inspired gowns while promoting Jackie. So, we can't say we weren't looking forward to seeing what she would have worn to the Oscars this year!

As much as we'd love to see her flaunting her baby bump in another wow-worthy, haute couture gown, it makes perfect sense that she'd want to rest up before welcoming baby #2. Whether she nabs the Oscar this year or not, Portman will surely be over the moon, thanks to her new bundle of joy!
