Mom Shares Birth Announcement Featuring Her Failed IUD

It seems this mom is part of the 1 percent for whom Mirena didn't work. See the birth announcement photo that shows her newborn baby holding the failed IUD.

Lucy Hellein has created quite the viral sensation with her unusual birth announcement. The Alabama mom posted a photo of her newborn son clutching her failed birth control method to Facebook and Instagram. The Facebook post has since been taken down but was shared more than 73,000 times prior to its removal.

Check it out:

Accompanying the unconventional first shot is this caption:

"Dexter Benjamin Manuel Tyler 27 April 2017 @ 08409lbs 1oz21.5in Mirena found behind placenta"

Hellein also used these hashtags to accompany the post: #littlejedi #mirenababy #mirenafail #blessing

On Mirena's website, the company claims its IUD is 99.9 percent effective. But as Hellein later joked in the comments, "The only safe birth control is abstinence!" She also said her doctor was aware that her Mirena implant was "MIA."

Despite the shocking nature of her birth announcement, it seems most commenters were quick to congratulate the new mama, instead of judge her. How refreshing!

We reached out to Hellein to find out more about the reaction to her post, but didn't immediately hear back.

Meanwhile, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for little Dexter to go to college. Because as it says on his page, "He has shown all of us that regardless of the odds we can all succeed."
