Holiday gifts for pregnant women

Last holiday season, I'd just crossed the second-trimester threshold, my pregnancy was public, and I was feeling so full of joy and promise at such a festive time of the year.

This year, help the mama-to-be in your life celebrate such a momentous and special time. From pregnancy pampering products and services, to maternity fashion, to thoughtful ideas for the baby-on-the-way, I put together my (unscientific, but real-mom tested!) list of amazing holiday gifts for the pregnant mama. Even if—or especially if—that fab mama you're buying for is you!

Bellybuds Let family members record messages that you can play to the baby-on-the-way with Bellybuds, which also offers a bunch of new music releases including meditations for expecting moms, and instrumental versions of Motown hits. (The first song my babies listened to with Bellybuds was Snoop Lion's "Fruit Juice." Future reggae fans—and Caribbean travelers—in the fam!)

Noodle & Boo The great thing about the Noodle & Boo line (beyond the cute packaging) is that it includes tons of great products for babies and expecting mamas alike. I used the Perfecting Crí¨me on my bump during pregnancy and even now for stretch marks.

Show Me Your Mumu People can joke all they want about pregnant women and mumus—but I dare anyone to find cooler maternity-friendly gear than the L.A.-based (non-maternity) line Show Me Your Mumu. Its trapeze dresses and tunics look great on a bump, as well as in that tricky fourth trimester — and beyond! (There are open kimono-esque options to dress even the biggest bump ever, aka mine.) I'm hooked.

Tart Collections I love the cool, breezy aesthetic of Tart Collections. A gift like the geometric black-and-white printed "Tatum" maternity dress will give her a ton of versatility (not to mention attention-grabbing style) throughout pregnancy.

Soothe By the end of my pregnancy, I felt like I was getting hit by the same truck every day. Pregnancy can be painful: Give the gift of a massage she doesn't even have to leave the house for. Soothe dispatches therapists in various cities around the country in as little as an hour.

Stylisted Along those lines, Stylisted sends hair and makeup stylists right to your door in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles (as of a recent launch) so that the mom-to-be can feel glam for a holiday party, family photo, or just a special treat. Who deserves it more than a gorgeous preggo (who may not be feeling quite so gorgeous)?

Stella & Dot I toss around the word "obsessed" too often, but I'm truly obsesed (mean it!) with the fashion jewelry line Stella & Dot. I love the engravable series, just right for a mom who has already made her baby name public. Alternatively, with a gift card she can scoop up something for herself after the delivery, engraved with the birthdate.

Choopie For a mom-to-be who's determined to maintain her chic style after baby comes, give a pulled-together quilted diaper bag from Choopie... which also happens to open with the touch of a button. That's an important thing for the never-enough-hands set. Also a cool gift: a just-debuted stroller organizer that doubles as a cross-body purse. Neat! Sarah Jessica Parker and Pink are among the celeb-mama fans of the brand.

When We Became Three Traditional baby books aren't my style—I don't generally color within the lines. But I love Jill Caryl Weiner's modern version, When We Became Three. Expecting moms can start filling it out in pregnancy, with details like the love story between parents. It's a great way to involve the dad too, and a super romantic holiday nesting activity.

Tkees In my third trimester, it was all I could do to slide a pair of flip-flops over my feet—I lived in them. (Granted, it was summertime in L.A.) Give a mom-to-be a gift of comfortable shoes that look more pulled together, like the Charlie style from Tkees. "Cocobutter" and "Sunkissed" are nude colors that go with everything. Her aching dogs will thank you

Earth Mama Angel Baby The Earth Mama Angel Baby line has mom covered from pregnancy through postpartum and breastfeeding. The new Calming Lavender Angel Baby Lotion is made with organic ingredients, super safe and gentle, and smells so relaxingly like lavender and vanilla.

Milestone Cards In the age of Instagram, give a gift that lets an expecting mama keep track of special milestones, and share them too. Milestone Cards come in pregnancy and baby versions—get both for a fun gift that keeps on giving after delivery.

PopSugar Must Have Box PopSugar editors are behind the picks in the Must Have boxes, which contain classic and new fave gifts to welcome baby. Pick a box for either a girl or a boy. (The metallic piggy bank from Lunares is the coolest thing!)

Cake LingerieCake Lingerie has launched soft and comfy "Fashion Panty Packs," a set of four cotton briefs with lace trim. They offer more coverage and a wider lined gusset—but she'll want to wear them after pregnancy too! Plus, they come in pretty decorated gift boxes that make for a lovely (fuss-free) gift.

Citrus Lane Talk about a gift that keeps on giving: Give her a subscription to Citrus Lane, and she'll get a monthly delivery of a box containing curated new age-approriate gifts for baby.

Operation ResCUTE I'm throwing this one in the mix as an animal lover and shelter pet mom! Nonprofit Operation ResCUTE provides books and stuffed animals that educate children about adopting from shelters, and gives 100 percent of profits to shelters in support of adoption efforts. It's a gift that gives back—and sets a great example for the future pet lover in the family!
