Now that I have a blog called "Everything Pregnancy," people think I must know, well, everything about pregnancy—including throwing an awesome baby shower. I've always loved a good theme party (from tequila and mezcal tastings for Cinco de Mayo to Mad Men-style '60s costume and cocktails), so when a friend recently wanted baby shower ideas for her sister's fete, I told her two words: Dr. Seuss!
Whether you are—or someone you're giving a baby shower for is— having a boy or a girl, a Dr. Seuss-themed party is always a big hit. Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss? Not only are favorites like The Lorax and Green Eggs and Ham gender-neutral, but some Dr. Seuss characters are perfect for twins too, like Cat in the Hat's Thing One and Thing Two and the red and blue fish from One Fish, Two Fish.
IMHO every party should have a signature drink. So here is a Blue Hawaiian mocktail recipe I like to call Thing One for a Dr. Seuss-themed party (but this could also be used for any baby shower for a boy).
Serving size: 1 drink. To make large batches, multiply recipe by double the amount of guests you expect.
Mix all ingredients and pour into a plastic glass filled with ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
For the non-preggo ladies at the bash, add 3/4 oz. vodka and 3/4 oz. rum to each drink to create Thing Two. Make sure each is clearly labeled "Thing One Mocktail" and "Thing Two Cocktail" so there's no confusion for your guests.
TELL US: What drinks will you be serving at your baby shower?
