Start spreading the news—Broadway star Audra McDonald is pregnant!
The six-time Tony winner announced the big news on Facebook, posting a pretty awesome GIF of herself and husband Will Swenson excitedly jumping up into the air.
"Leaping lizards! Will and I are so excited to share the news that we are expecting," she wrote. "A big thank you to everyone on and offstage and in New York and London for being so supportive and accommodating of our little miracle."
The actress, who is currently starring in Shuffle Along on Broadway, then later joked on Twitter that her on-stage performance may have actually had something to do with her current knocked-up status. "Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead 2 pregnancy?" she wrote, later tweeting: "In other news...I may have had 3 croissants today."
The six-time Tony winner also explained that she will be taking temporary maternity leave towards the end of July, but will return to the musical sometime in the winter. "While I'm disappointed I have to postpone my West End debut in Lady Day, I'm glad I'll be able to spend a little more time in Shuffle Along this summer," she said. "[I] look forward to setting up a 1920s-themed nursery in my dressing room when I return to the show."
We are just loving this expectant mama's sense of humor!
McDonald is 45, by the way, and already has a 15-year-old daughter from her previous marriage. Swenson is 42, with two sons ages 13 and 10. I am 47, and I can't even begin to imagine starting over at this age. But I've got mad love for all the ladies now getting pregnant later in life. You go, girls!
Wishing Audra and Will a wonderful, healthy journey!
