Welcome, bienvenida! I'm Grace, the Editor of Parents Latina, a new magazine I'm excited to be a part of. It's been created to help moms like you and me balance our American and Latin cultures, so that our kids get the best of both worlds. When I had my little girl, Eva, in 2013, I knew I'd have to be the one to give her an appreciation for my roots since my husband, Iain, is a non-Latino from England. But I don't have a blueprint for raising a multicultural kid. How do I immerse Eva in our heritage when English is the language we speak at home, and I never learned to prepare my mom's Colombian recipes because she'd shoo me out of our cramped kitchen to go study? That's where Parents Latina comes in.
The first issue of the magazine, which will be out March 30, was a labor of love for me. Not only was I pregnant with my second daughter, Stella, while I was working on it, but every story hits home. When you read the articles such as "Put Away La Chancla" and "A Perfect Blend," I know you'll immediately think back to your own childhood.
The good news is, I can already see my little Eva becoming a global citizen. Just the other day, I overheard my husband telling her, "Dame un beso," in his British accent after she didn't respond to his request in English. Not only did it melt my heart, but it made me even prouder of the little familia we've created.
I'm excited to hear what you think of the magazine, so like us on Facebook and we'll remind you to look for it as soon as it's out!
