Every mom attending the Super Bowl has already scored big time, but now juggling that monumental event and kids is going to be easier than ever. With this year’s big game taking place at the home of the Minnesota Vikings that means breastfeeding moms get to take advantage of the facility’s Mamava lactation suites. These self-contained, private mobile pods, fitted with comfortable bench seating, and electrical outlets for breast pumps, are what we would consider a well-deserved win for moms.
The Vikings were the first NFL franchise to implement Mamava locations for nursing mothers back in 2015. Considering 45% of all NFL fans are women, and 62% of all NFL fans have children, it is much appreciated to see stadiums promoting inclusivity and hospitality.
“Until now female NFL fans attending the Super Bowl who wanted privacy for feeding have had to nurse or pump in a bathroom, or worse yet, stay home due to the lack of amenities for nursing,” said Sascha Mayer, co-founder of Mamava. “We believe that all mamas deserve a safe, clean and comfortable place to use a breast pump or breastfeed—anywhere, anytime. Mamava pods provide flexibility for facilities and easy access for moms.”
The 4-foot by 8-foot lactation suites are all a part of Mamava’s incentive to shift our society towards supporting and celebrating the 21-century mom. Let’s just collectively get it off our chest: It’s about time people!
As the Patriots face the Eagles in the biggest American sporting event of the year—us moms will be basking in the glory of this triumph. Although it seems like a no-brainer, the lack of public resources provided to women is still a big issue, so any progress is worth celebrating.
