Raising Kids Celebrity Parents Celebrity Moms & Dads Kristen Bell Shares the 'Controversial' Trick She Uses to Get 3-Year-Old Delta to Sleep The actress, who narrates the upcoming IMAX documentary Pandas, attended the film's premiere and opened up about parenting her 3-year-old Delta. By Maressa Brown Published on March 19, 2018 Share Tweet Pin Email Whether she's talking about prenatal health, her marriage, or treating her daughters for pinworms, Kristen Bell pulls no punches. Now, she's done it again, opening up about a "controversial" parenting strategy that she and husband Dax Shepard are currently trying with their 3-year-old Delta. Kristen shared the story on Saturday, March 17 at the world premiere of the IMAX documentary PANDAS, held at theTCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. "Look, I'll get controversial," Kristen, who narrates the documentary adventure film, told press on the red carpet. "My 3-year-old [Delta] decided to stop sleeping about nine months ago. And every night, when we put her to bed, she turns the lights on, which annoys the 4-year-old [Lincoln], and she will move furniture, and she bangs on the door with different, hard toys. We switched the door knob. We turned the lock on the outside." She went on to acknowledge that the practice of locking your L.O. in their bedroom at nighttime is definitely one that sets off fiery debate among parents. "I'm sorry, I know that's controversial, but we lock it when she gets in there, and we stand outside and say, 'We love you, we will talk to you in the morning, but now, it's time for sleep.' And after about 10 minutes, she'll wind herself down. And then, before we go to bed, obviously, we unlock it." Although the practice Kristen and Dax have taken to using with Delta might get tongues wagging, some parenting experts are on-board with it. Parents advisor Jodi Mindell, Ph.D., associate director of the Sleep Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, says that allowing a child the "chance to work it out for himself and see if he falls back to sleep without your help" could prevent creating a "sleep monster." Ultimately, Kristen and Dax know best what works for them and their daughters. At the same time, plenty of parents are sure to be relieved to hear they're not alone in having to figure out the best way to manage a toddler's sleep troubles! Cheers to another case of Kristen getting oh-so-real about the challenges of #momlife. As if we needed one more reason to adore her!
